The Saharan Loom

The Saharan Loom interprets "Nature Weave" as a physical and metaphorical interlacing of culture and environment. We take the "weave" literally, utilizing a rhythmic space-frame of vertical plywood to create a structural tapestry that is perforated by the site itself. By designing specific fenestrations that allow the "wild growth" trees to penetrate the booth's walls and ceiling, we move beyond mere observation to active engagement. The rigid, geometric archetypes of North African design are woven together with the organic forms of the trees, demonstrating that heritage and nature are not separate entities, but part of a singular, interconnected thread.

The pavilion is defined by a modular exoskeleton of vertical plywood slats a "loom" of timber that mimics the intricate textures and geometric patterns found in Saharan craft. Rather than displacing the environment, the structure breathes with it. Precise fenestrations are "cut out" from the walls and ceiling, allowing existing tree limbs to weave through the interior space.

This deliberate interplay creates a living threshold where the boundary between built form and nature dissolves. Inside, visitors encounter a curated sensory experience of light and shadow, where the breeze flows freely through open-air apertures, celebrating ancient geometry in harmony with organic unpredictability.

The Saharan Loom is an architectural dialogue between the structured heritage of the Maghreb and the untamed coastal canopy. Set beneath the dappled shade of wild-growth trees, the installation reimagines the traditional North African archetype through a contemporary, rhythmic lens.
