OUR DESIGNS ARE OUR “BABIES” AND WE MAKE SURE THEY ARE PRODUCED TO OUR METICULOUS QUALITY STANDARDS, USING ONLY TOP-GRADE MATERIALS
All of our production houses are located in Indonesia. They were set up for their capabilities to combine modern manufacturing methods with old-fashioned craftsmanship in carving, weaving and assembly. We are proud to have established ourselves as one of the world’s high end furniture brands.

MAYA & MARCEL
Meet Maya Basyroel and Marcel Opstal. Their cultural backgrounds are from opposite sides of the globe – Indonesia and The Netherlands. What brought them together was their desire to study architecture in the United States. Both chose the same school: The University of Houston, College of Architecture.
For the first four years in college they became good friends and “studio mates”. Then they discovered that they may want to become life partners. Their last year of college was spent exploring parts of the U.S. and its cultural diversity, and the last semester brought an opportunity to study in France and add a rich layer of Western culture to their design sensibilities.
The year 1994 brought graduation, marriage and a move to Miami where Marcel’s parents live. Both landed jobs with prestigious architectural firms and were able to purchase a modest 1940s bungalow as their first home. With their household budget still tight, they began searching through thrift stores and estate sales to furnish it. It took a lot of love and dedication to refinish and reupholster
pieces that no one else would have given a second look. The results? A home that delighted them, and would provide the impetus for pointing their lives into a whole new direction.
By now well-established in architecture, they knew what they really wanted to do: Apply their architectural knowledge of space to home décor and interior design, and make furniture an integral part of that space – be it residential or commercial. To complete their transformation, they moved to Indonesia, Maya’s home country, and arrived in Jakarta in March 1997. They founded their first company, BOKDESINDO, and were happy to discover that their individual competencies perfectly complemented each other. In 2008 they renamed their company BOX LIVING PTE., LTD. Today, they look back with pride on the wonderful experiences building their brand and their relationships with production houses in Indonesia and with their clients, local and worldwide.
